ANATOMY AWARENESS in ASANA
Portland, Oregon
July 30 - August 3, 2018

A Weeklong Class Series with Julie Gudmestad, a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher. Julie has been a practicing physical therapist for over 40 years. She runs a combined yoga studio and physical therapy practice in Portland, Oregon, as well as teaching workshops throughout the US, Canada, and Europe. Additionally, she wrote the Yoga Journal column, ‘Anatomy of a Yogi’ for several years.

INSPIRE AND DEEPEN YOUR YOGA PRACTICE by studying anatomy with Julie Gudmestad. During this series we will focus on one area at a time, starting by seeing and feeling bones, joints and muscles. Then we will bring anatomy to life by practicing poses that strengthen and stretch the highlighted muscles. The asana practice will build from easy to more challenging poses. Everyone will be encouraged to work at their own pace, with ample time for questions. Anatomy can be fun!

We will:

     • Learn to “see” muscles in action, and correctly describe the movement.

     • Use and practice anatomical language to help deepen your understanding of human movement patterns.

     • Study how muscle imbalances can contribute to pain and disrupt the injury healing process.

     • Suggest poses and sequences to help make progress with challenging poses.

This saves us the steep charges from the credit card companies, and helps keep the workshop accessible to all. Thank you!

LODGING INFORMATION:
If this is your first visit to Portland, you’ll be happy to find our downtown area very pedestrian friendly, with many fine restaurants, shops and museums nearby. Our studio is located just south of downtown, either a short bus ride (10 minutes or so), or if you’re feeling energetic perhaps a brisk walk (approximate distance is 2 miles from downtown). We’ve selected just a few that are convenient and moderately priced. All are within walking distance of the downtown bus mall. You may want to have a car or plan to ride the bus, especially if you are bringing props.
