Betsy
Allen, PT
Since
taking her first yoga class at Lewis & Clark College
in 1971, Betsy has been devoted to yoga. She graduated
from the University of New Mexico Physical Therapy program
in 1987, writing her thesis on "Integrating Yoga
with Traditional Physical Therapy." That year she
was chosen from her class to present her research to New
Mexico's annual PT Convention. Sixteen years later, she
still enjoys promoting the benefits of yoga to the uninitiated.
Betsy
began teaching at Gudmestad Studio in 1991 after realizing
that her style was a perfect fit with Julie Gudmestad's
integration of Iyengar yoga and physical therapy. Betsy
inspires students to find respect for, as well as comfort
and strength in, their bodies, with an emphasis on the
importance of breath to physical, emotional and spiritual
health.
Her physical therapy
practice specializes in the treatment
of chronic pain. Betsy teaches poses and the principles
of yoga to her patients. She incorporates the teachings of Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais, biofeedback,
as well as craniosacral and myofascial release treatments
to help her patients find comfort and relief from symptoms.
